  • Has any one heard of the port being placed on the arm?? Skin/nipple spearing, bilateral Mastectomy with immediate reconstruction; the right Brest where the lump was found healed perfectly. The left side which was cancer free did not heal. The permanent implant was replaced with an expander implant and it did not heal either. The repeated reversal of the reconstruction was taking a toll on my moral and was also delaying the treatment. We decided to leave the left breast area to heal so quimo can begin. Once completed, the reconstruction will be attempted once again. Originally, it was thought that I did not need a port because the lymph nodes were clean. However, I do have to have one implanted and will done on Wed.

  • Interesting to learn how chemotherapy and radiation can actually cause cancer cells to mutate and become resistant and difficult to destroy. Surgery can also cause cancer cells to spread to other sites. I am sorry to everyone I love and who cares about me. Thank you for your love, care and support – even when I was not sick.

  • A few days after xray, I was admitted for a biopsy of the mediastinal tumour in my chest and a bonemarrow biopsy. 2 days later we met with my haematologist, Dr Du Toit, at Constantiberg Medi Clinic.
  • My only surgeries other than the lymph node biopsy I had - were all for ports to be placed. I've had 3 total. One through my entire first treatment, and so far 2 for this time around. My first port was placed fine, except that I got a collapsed lung from where the surgeon cut my lung on accident. 2nd port just always gave us trouble, and kept getting stuck until one day it just quit working. Would flush, nothing. Had to be replaced. 3rd port - it works great but the Dr had such a hard time getting it in that a lot of blood went down around my lung causing me a lot of pain for about a month every time I took a breath. We actually had to stop treatment for a month until this went away.

I was scheduled to see my surgeon on Aug 5th but received a phone call asking me to come in on July 28th, never in a millions years did I think I would be told that I have stage 1 anal cancer, I am scheduled to see an oncologist on Aug. 4th, so for now it is just waiting and wondering. • Bilateral Mastectomy March 30, 2010 with left breast being prophylactic with immediate reconstruction. After 6 weeks of recovering from the mastectomy, I seen my oncologist and he decided since I was node negative to put me on tamoxifen due to the tumor size being so small plus my receptors were positive which is an aggresive form of cancer. I have been taking tamoxifen for 6 weeks now and feel pretty good, except for constipation and now take two laxative pills daily to help with this and just recently got hives. I am on steroids to get rid of those.
  • bilateral mastectomy, SNB, expander reconstruction.
  • Biopsy: 3/06, hurt like hell. Had a needle biopsy first but it did not harvest enough tissue so the surgical biopsy was necessary. Port-a-cath insertion: 4/06, Periodic pain although it is more annoying than painful most of the time. Oopherectomy: 5/06, The burning was the most painful part of this surgery. It went away fairly quickly though. Hip nail procedure: 9/06, Learning to walk again and learning to walk up and down stairs again was painful, but better than having a full hip replacement if I broke the hip. This was a profelactic measure as there were lesions on the base of the hip ball. Kyphoplasty: 2/07, Really improved the pain in my back which wasn't helped by radiation treatment.
  • Core needle biopsy on August 7, 2007. Pathology report confirmed cancer August 9, 2007. Sentinel node biopsy and lumpectomy August 17, 2007. 1.9cm tumor removed with clean edges. No lymph node involvement.

  • Had a modified radical mastectomy to my left breast June 29th, 2007 with delayed reconstruction. Need to wait until after radiation.
  • Had a partial Lumpectomy on the right breast 9-2-09. Had an infection for a month.
  • Had a terible surgeon for my biopsy. Felt my whole biopsy, October 2009, and was in pain for days afterwards. For my lumpectomy, November 2009, changed to Dr. Fine, and my lumpectomy and sentinol node surgery was wonderful. I do have grade 1 lymphodema as a result of my surgery (had nine lymph nodes taken out).
  • Had bi-lateral mastectomy. Pretty tough surgery. Had 4 drainage tubes for a week. Most uncomfortable other than surgery site: Had to sleep on my back at a 45 degree angle and I always slept on one of my sides. This lasted about 3 weeks.

  • Had my surgery last March 22, 2004 . I had the lumpectomy and negative for my lymph nodes.

  • Hopefully a lumpectomy after chemo has shrunken the mass; otherwise a mastectomy; reconstructive surgery.
  • I had a biopsy done on Sept. 26, 2006 and a lumpectomy on Oct. 3, 2006. Waiting to have mastectomy and reconstruction.
  • I had a biospy first & it turned out positive of cancer. I then had another surgery, to check the lymph nodes, thank God, they were neg., after that one I got staff infection & boy it was worst pain than the surgery itself. I was on 1000 mg of infection for almost 2 wks. Well, after I found out I had cancer, I was in shock for around a mon. or so, so were my parents, we could not look at each other without crying. It felt like I had been given a death sentence. You know, when you hear the big "C" word, everyone thinks, the big "D" word & I'm here to tell you, it's not always true. Then one day I was talking to a friend & she told me, Denise, you have to take hold of this thing & show it your not a quiter. That your gonna fight this with all you got, cause if you don't, it'll take you over & it will win. Well, needless to say, something just clicked & I woke up & from then on I fought this thing & 3 years later, here I am.
  • I had a lumpectomy in May and Then had to have a re-excision in June to get clean margins. I was just a little sore from each surgery.
  • I had a modified radical mastectomy on May 24, 1990. I didn't have any side effects. No pain pills needed at all.
  • I had a total radical mastectomy with 3 lymph and reconstruction with saline and expander that didn,t take and was removed, body rejected it and it hardned, now use prothesis, surgery was December 17, 1993.
  • I opted for a lumpectomy, mainly because I didn't want to lose my hair! Since the cancer was agressive and had traveled to my lymph nodes (7 out of 12), I went through chemo and lost my hair anyway. The surgery was October 2002. I had an emergency surgery to install a medi-port after the second chemo treatment because my veins went on strike. Next up: oophrectomy. They removed my ovaries. Oh to be in menopause at age 40. Is it hot in here to you?
  • I opted to have both my breasts removed and my ovaries. Reconstructed. Doing OK with that right now. But still not the same. At least I'm alive for kids.
  • I was told today, I must have a rt mastectomy with lymph node resection.
  • In the long run? Probably worse than any of the rest of the ordeal. I HATED losing a breast. Especially the nipple. No reconstruction can restore that, regardless of what plastic surgeons can do to create a fake one. Oh, and it was performed on my 44th birthday in Dec. 2003, which didn't help matters any.

  • Lumpectomy & Sentinel Node removal . . .April 24, 2008. Most of the pain was from the incision where they took the lymph nodes, it hurt for quite a while. 2nd Surgery . . . May 30, 2008 . . . Lumpectomy Re-do . . . the margins from my first lumpectomy were very small, so they needed to take more tissue. Because I don't have a lot of tissue to take, he had to take extra skin from my breast and some muscle from my chest wall. The worst part about this surgery was the burning I would feel from the muscle behind my breast.

This surgery was October of 2004.Later, I had the implant put in. That was January of 2006. I think having the muscle in my back redirected to make a pouch for my implant was more painful than the mastectomy.
  • mastectomy in 2003 - side effects: ugly reconstructed breast with no feeling
  • Mastectomy in Aug.'08 because dcis was in 2 places. Lumpectomy not an option and besides, I didn't have to have chemo or any other after treatment. Endometrial cancer caused complete hysterectomy in August '09. I am just now finished with 6 months of chemo and 28 radiation treatments. Both were hell. Chemo put me in the hospital the first two treatments. Dehydration, near kidney failure, hallucinations, dysentery, metal mouth made me not want to eat or drink. If I can say it again : Hydrate all day every day!
  • Mastectomy on right 8/05 gamma knife on right brain tumor 11/07 removal of right brain tumor 4/28/08

  • May '05 right mastectomy 27 lymph nodes & 2 sentinel lymph nodes removed all cancer free...horrible pain for a long time. Discharged from hospital w/2 drains. Was not prepared for this at all!! What a nightmare! Having drains removed was a special event for me! What a strange sensation that was to put it mildly!
  • May 2008 lump noted by self on right breast...mammogram ordered, ultrasound, biopsy...and finally double mastecomy July 8 2008 with 24 lymph nodes removed
  • Modified Radical Mastectomy with lymph nodes removal in Feb 2009 after 6 months of Chemotherapy. Breast reconstruction planned in 1-2 years.
  • Modified radical mastectomy, left breast August 2, 2007 with ten nodes removed only one positive.
  • My first surgery was on September 22, 2005 where I had a lump in my breast removed. I got the call on September 26th that is was cancerous. My second re-excision surgery was on October 5th. The cancer reoccurred and was found on May 29, 2009. I am scheduled to have a mastectomy on Thursday June 11, 2009.
  • My Surgery was April 1 and April 3rd. Pretty easy. I was happy to see my breast had not changed because of surgery.
  • Needle biospy: Tumor too dense Core biospy: Negative results, me: relieved Lumpectomy: Positive, IDC. Mastectomy: 2 extra tumors found, TNBC
  • Nov. 2005 - masectomy June 2006 - implant put in Jan. 2007 - reconstruction phase and reduction of other breast

  • November 14, 2007 I had a lumpectomy, sentinel lymph node removal to see if the cancer spread, thank god, no. For about two weeks after surgery, had difficulty in moving my right arm and fortunately experienced light pain.
  • November 5, 2009, bilateral mastectomy and sentinal node biopsy. The most painful (and I'm not joking at all) of this process other than standing up in the middle of the night to walk..was the dye injection for the sentinal node biopsy. Its inhuman to put anyone through this procedure while they are still lucid.
  • Oct 3rd/07 Lumpectomy,sentinial node disection(none envolved)
  • On October 9th I had Bi-lateral lumpectomy and sentinel node biopsy, 3 incisions...i made it through that, still really sore 3 weeks later...told yesterday that Pathology found ANOTHER UNRELATED breast cancer on the tissue sample. Invasive Lobular Carcinoma.....SURGERY ALL OVER AGAIN!!
  • Partial mastectomy and sentinel lymph node removal.
  • Partial mastectomy, vertebreaplasty, two times port insertion, lymph nodes removal. Side effects: vertebraeplasty: when it's cold it feels like I have steel in my verterbrae. Lymph node removal: cannot rise my left arm as much as my right one
  • Radical Hyst -- May 10th Partial Masectomy, Sentinel Node Biopsy--July 19th
  • Radical Mastectomy in Dec 2000 - couldn't have reconstructive surgery because too many lymph nodes were malignant & had to start immediate aggressive chemotherapy Complete Hysterectomy in Aug 2001 - growths were benign!! Wound Debredment Surgery in July 09 for non-healing wound caused from removing infected medical port. To get this completely healed took more than six months of treatments at the Wound Care Center. It was very painful and worse than chemo side effects.
  • refused
  • Removal of the mass with good clean margins - aobut 10 cm of tissue in diameter. The surgeon then performed oncoplasty and brought tissue forward from my back (I think) to fill in the gap. My breast looks exactly the same as it did prior to surgery except for the scars. Amazing. Surgery September 24, 2008. It is completely healed, but the scars are still a deep purple color and they are numb.
  • see bio

  • surgery after chemo july 21st, lumpectomy with sentinel node biopsy and wires to locate ... not as bad as I thought it would be, less painful following surgery, faster recovery
  • Surgery after I am done with chemo which will be in 7 or 8 weeks
  • surgery was april 4,2008 ,,i didnt have any side effects besides depression
  • Surgery was fast and was out the next morning.
  • Surgery: March 15th...To Be Continued.
  • they put the blue dye in my live diseased breast on 04-26-04, then as they put me to sleep they acccidently gave me a shot of adrenalyn (sp) so I had to redo the blue dye on 04-28-04 on my 18th anniversary after they had checked to make sure there was no cardiac danger.
  • Two major surgery within six months.
  • Unilateral mastectomy (October 2008) with immediate reconstruction with tissue expander which was replaced with silicone implant July 2009.
  • Went to surg.first & in 1 week I came out of surgery. Quickest thing I have ever heard of. Fla. Drs. don't waste time.

  • I had a D&C at the end of May 2008. They biopsied the tissue that they removed and found the cancer. They failed to find the grapefruit size tumor in my cervix. I had surgery 6/14/08 where they put my powerport in my chest. I had surgery August 8th 2008. This surgery was terrible. They inserted 3 radioactive implants into my cervix and stuffed me full of padding, and a cathader and stiched me up. I layed in the hospital for 4 days on a morphine pump. I think the most painful thing was when my doctor came the day of discharge and removed the 8 inch metal rods, packing, stiches, and catheder. The next day at home I developed thrush which I had for 3 days.
  • I had an radical hyster. on Jan 5, 2010. I was told that the cancer had not spread and I would have 90% change that the cancer would not come back. I have night hot flashes day and night, insomnia, very emotional and very fatiqued.

Port implant April 1 2009 - felt weird, guy did a terrible job in not sterile environment, became infected 3 weeks later, had to have it removed, that was the worst part so far. PICC line placed April 24 2009 - Lidocaine didn't numb the tissue just the muscle in my arm, scalpels hurt as much as you would imagine. New Port Placed June 2009 - beautiful job done by surgeon, no complaints. Healed quickly.

  • Surgery is not an option at this point for me
  • The surgeon, an excellent surgeon, recommended a lobectomy on the right lung. Surgery was performed on July 13, 2009. The surgeon found the nodule was cancerous and had grown in an area of the lung damaged by a fungal infection, cryptocaucus. My recuperation period in the hospital was twelve days, the release prolonged due to a pneumothorax (collapsed lung). The treatment for this was the most painful thing I have EVER encountered. It's called Pleurodesis and consists of putting one of any number of chemicals (sclerosing agents or sclerosants) into the pleural space by way of the existing chest tube. The sclerosant irritates the pleurae which results in inflammation (pleuritis) and causes the pleurae to stick together. I don't recommend this to cure boredom but it did work!!

  • Hernia Surgery
  • I've had so many surgeries it's not even funny. From the day the doctor called my mom and told her to get me to a hospital NOW, until today, I have been relentlessly tortured in every which way possible for the greater good or some bullshit like that. I had two biopsies in the same spot, one was with just shots and no numbing medication and ther other was actual open surgery. Then they had to clean it out because they didn't check it and it got infected and couldn't heal properly. Then it finally did, but then they had to open me up again to put my port in my chest but since my diagnosis, I've stopped working out. All I can do is eat and eat and eat because of the steroids they're giving me so Im growing immensely! Well, that tilted the port in my chest and they almost can't get to it so they may need to cut me open a fourth time. Everytime I go into surgery they put a long scope down my throat into my chest so I can breath is I start to slide. Well when they take it out, you wont be able to swallow your foods for the next 3 days or so. Waking up initially is scary to because there's something covoring your entire face and all you can see is up and hear groggy voices. you're in a lot of pain to.

  • I've had 3 surgeries total. The 1st was laproscopic when they discovered I didn't have endometriosis, what they originally thought I had. That's when they discovered that the 2 huge tumors were either cancerous or pre-cancerous. On the 2nd surgery they removed the 2 tumors and managed to save my ovaries, but the patholgy sent to Johns Hopkins came back showing a 6 mm invasive carcinoma in my right ovary, and the left ovary had a micro-invasive tumor. • 1. ERCP set for 5 Feb 07.
  • August 2004 tumor removed from pancreas and took part of pancreas with it and removed the spleen. My father was told that he would not have to have chemo and that he would live a normal life that they got all the cancer and that was it. We should have made him get a second opinion you see the cancer that he was diagnosed with is very rare about 1 in 25 million people. the doctors didn't know enough about it. well two years later he started having the same symtoms as before very low blood sugars (he is not diabetic) so when he went back to the doctors they discovered that he had several very large tumors on and in his liver. We took him to MAYO's where he had a seven hour long surgery and had several complications, PE, and phrenic artery bleed. We know now that this cancer can not be cured or treated with chemo and that the tumors will be comming back. We just got back from Mayo's this last week and they found 2 more new spots on his CT. We go back in Jan. He is not ready for another surgery it has only been 7mos since the last one. I would love to hear from any one who knows anything about this cancer.
  • Dad had a Whipple procedure on 2/15/10. The tumor was completely removed along with 12 lymph nodes (only one tested positive). His side effects have been pain, nausea, gas build up, bile build up and hiccups which caused him to start throwing up the bile so bad he had to go to the ER. Finally found the right combination of medication to get rid of all of the side effects.
  • exploratory surgery
  • Had Whipple surgery done on 2/15
  • Open distal pancreatectomy and splenectomy is the type of surgery I had for my pancreatic cancer in January of 07..side effects..digestion issues....especially for the spicier foods that I love and anything gassy...peppers,cucumbers, onions, broccoli, and cabbage..must stay at a minimum and I hate this if I were to put any combo of 2 or more of these things in a salad I would be extremely ill. when I first came home from the hospital finishing a tv dinner was often more than I could handle. The good thing is the surgery actually improved my blood sugars and reduced my need for insulin.
